Batam, May 31, 2021. The era of globalization requires us to master foreign languages to support one’s life and career success. English is an international language, which needs to be learned and mastered in learning activities. Speaking of English, English is a language, that we are indirectly aware of, has required us to understand it and be able to use it anytime and anywhere; in addition to our mother tongue. Not to mention, the progress of the times that increasingly support this. Marked by the existence of a global market, cultural exchanges, to the creation of English-based technologies, such as computers, cell phones, and electronic devices, even the world of music and lifestyle has been affected by English.
With a situation like this, we must understand very well the importance of English. To achieve an impressive learning experience and as motivation in learning English, HMPS English Education and the English Club Student Activity Unit held a competition related to mastering English which was packaged in the English Competition Festival (EC Fest) with the theme of “Go Beyond Your Limit”.
There are 4 (four) competition categories at EC Fest, namely; Essay Writing, Reading Poem, Writing Poem, and Short Story. The competition activity lasts for 1 (one) month and all competitions are carried out online. All submitted works are judged by competent judges in their respective fields and in accordance with the assessment aspects that have been determined in the competition guide.
The winners of the EC Fest competition are as follows;
In the Essay Writing category, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were won by Universitas Internasional Batam students, namely Winnie Stevani, Annisa Salsabila, and Kevin John Paul Manurung.
In the Reading Poem category, the 1st place was won by Karlina Sharon Juliani from Universitas Internasional Batam, 2nd place was won by Martauba Pangaribuan from Bengkulu University, and 3rd place was won by Decci Japin who is also from Universitas Internasional Batam.
In the Writing Poem category, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were won by Universitas Internasional Batam students, respectively Wendy Goteji, Desyanti Putri, and Angel Rosinta Uli Simorangkir.
As for the Short Story category, the 1st and 2nd place winners were obtained by Universitas Internasional Batam students, respectively Annisa Salsabila and Renita Millena, and the 3rd place winner was won by Julfitri Ekasari Siregar from Bengkulu University.
Hopefully, through this activity, students will become more motivated and also hone their skills in using English as an international language. The entire committee appreciates all the works submitted for this competition and congratulates all the winners and see you at the English Competition Festival in the coming year.
