On Tuesday, July 21, 2021, the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) with the Management Study Program Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) held a Workshop entitled Improving Lecturer Capability in Data Analysis and Interpretation. This activity is funded by the Independent Campus Competition Program (PKKM) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbud Ristek). The workshop was attended by more than 70 participants from various institutions in Indonesia, such as UIB, UNP, STIE Indragiri, STIE Bentara Persada, Universal University, and other institutions. The workshop was opened by the MC, Mr. Ade Jaya Saputra, S.T., M.Eng., and was welcomed by the chairman of UIB LPPM, Ms. Ni’matul Ma’muriyah, M.Eng. The activity was then led by the moderator, Dr. Johny Budiman, S.E., M.M., who first introduced the CV of the speaker, namely Sari Wahyuni, SIP., M.Sc., Ph.D., who has an expertise and extensive track record in international research as well as is the founder of The South East Asian Journal of Management. In her presentation, Ms. Sari, Ph.D. started by discussing the selection of qualitative and quantitative research. According to her, the technique used in conducting qualitative research consists of observation, interactive interviews, and descriptions. The speaker also explained that qualitative research can also be very good and interesting research by conducting formations, operations, and evaluations that have been validated internally and externally.

Ms. Sari, Ph.D. emphasizes that to support good data analysis and interpretation, it is necessary to be supported by a literature review and a good planning framework or model. Apart from the literature review, the research must also contain significance, complete, and alternative perspectives; sufficient evidence, and be composed in an engaging manner in the process. The next session was opened with an explanation of data interpretation starting from how to conduct a proper interview, types of interviews, and preparation for conducting interviews or data collection. Before conducting interviews, researchers must prepare a clear frame of mind so, the data collection can remain focused and more detailed on the topic under study to carry out the case study protocol. The lecturer may not permit students to collect data if the frame of mind has not been prepared properly. All the insights by Ms. Sari, Ph.D. are a very important and valuable input for all participants, especially LPPM UIB because they can be a reference to improve the ability of lecturers in the future, especially in analyzing and interpreting data in their research.
