UIB (05/10/19) – Universitas Internasional Batam held a mangrove planting activity together as a form of concern for the environment, especially the environment around Universitas Internasional Batam. This activity was carried out together with a team from Sembulang who acted as the guide for mangrove planting activities located behind the Universitas Internasional Batam Sport Hall. In addition, participation was also obtained from all members of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, members of the USA (UIB Social Activities) Student Activity Unit and representatives from Sembulang Sub-district.
The program opened with remarks from Dr. Hepy Hefri Ariyanto as Vice Chancellor 3 of Universitas Internasional Batam and Mr. Rizal Lesmana as Sembulang Sub-District Chief. On that occasion Mr. Hepy said that UIB had been waiting for this activity because it was very good for UIB and could support the UIB program as a Green Campus. Then, Ms. Yusra Aulia Sari, S.T., M.URP as one of the civil engineering lecturers at Universitas Internasional Batam delivered material about the importance of mangrove trees in the ecosystem, and Mr. Agus as a local farmer from Sembulang also explained how to plant mangrove seeds to all participants.
On this occasion Universitas Internasional Batam, represented by Mrs. Dr. Meiliana as Deputy Chancellor 1 (one) gave souvenirs to Mr. Rizal Lesmana, and in return Mr. Rizal Lesmana also handed the symbol of mangrove seeds to Mrs. Dr. Meiliana and Mr. Dr. Hepy Hefri Ariyanto.
The activity was followed by planting mangrove seedlings coordinated by farmers from Sembulang with Ms. Amanda Rosetia, S. Ars., MLA. Planting is carried out along the land near the waters behind the UIB sports hall building. Through this activity UIB hopes that mangrove plants can grow well and be further developed in the future.
