Inauguration of the New Chancellor of Universitas Internasional Batam 2019-2024 Period

UIB (11/29/2019) – Dr. Iskandar Itan S.E., MM was officially elected as Chancellor of Universitas Internasional Batam in the 2019-2024 period replacing Prof. Handoko Kartjantoro, CPA whose term of service ends on Friday, November 29, 2019.

The inauguration procession for the new Chancellor of UIB was held in the 6th Floor Hall, Building B, Universitas Internasional Batam. The procession was attended by hundreds of invited guests consisting of the Head of the Riau Islands Education Office who represented Plt. Governor of Riau Islands, Secretary of LLDIKTI, Chair of Batam YMTI, Soehendro Gautama, Principals of SMA / SMK Schools from Batam, Tanjungpinang and Karimun, UIB partners and all UIB academicians.

Soehendro Gautama, S.H., M. Hum as Chairman of Yayasan Marga Tionghoa Indonesia  (YMTI) Batam City was asked to elect Dr. Iskandar Itan as the new chancellor as well as ending the term of service Prof. Handoko Kartjantoro, CPA from his position. In his remarks, Soehendro said that the election of Dr. Iskandar Itan as the new chancellor was the result of a deliberation of the entire UIB academic community to replace Prof. Handoko who has served as rector of UIB for 17 years. “During the 17 years of serving as Chancellor of UIB, Prof. Handoko has made major contributions and scored various achievements that led UIB to become the most influential university in Batam,” he said.

Soehendro also said that UIB became the best university in the Riau Islands Province in 2019 and became one of the top 5 best universities throughout Indonesia based on 2019 Kemenristekdikti ranking data. “Representing the foundation, I would like to thank profusely to Prof. Handoko. “Thanks to his cold hand leading UIB, many achievements have been achieved by this campus,” he added.

Prof. Handoko Kartjantoro said that there were two big things that had to be achieved by the new chancellor. First, UIB must be able to get international accreditation. Second, the new 12-story UIB building must be completed. “It is my hope that the new chancellor can continue the work that I have not yet completed,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Iskandar Itan said that the international accreditation target was planned to be achieved within the next 4 years because UIB currently was preparing the requirements to register for the accreditation. “If international accreditation can be obtained, there will have many advantages, both for the campus and the students, including the alumni of UIB, it will be easy for them to find jobs according to their majors,” he said.
