National University Debating Championship (NUDC), one of the university-level national debate competitions, has become an annual agenda in Indonesia. In the debate competition, students are not only required to be able to use English in expressing ideas, but also to have a broad scope of knowledge about global knowledge, analyze, state assessments, and convince the public at large that the opinions and sides they occupy are true. Students will face various problems that occur in the community and nation. Therefore, students will also be trained to communicate, argue and negotiate on a national and international scale.

UIB has several times sent representatives to participate in this annual event through the English Club. In 2016, 3 UIB representatives succeeded in getting 2nd place in Kopertis Region X, and still managed to maintain its ranking in the top 5 in the following year. On this occasion, the English Club seeks to participate in preparing candidates who will be sent to be the next representatives at the NUDC 2020 debate competition which will be held in April. By holding a “Selection and Debate Coaching Clinic”, the English Club will pre-candidate candidates by providing debate training classes, as well as holding sparring to increase the best training intensity. These training classes will be led by lecturers and seniors who have experience in previous debating fields. The initial selection will begin with the candidates’ English proficiency testing by the trainers, followed by the procurement of debate training classes under applicable regulations. Sparring or internal competition training will also be held to introduce the candidates to the real situation in the competition arena.

Registration for “Selection and Debate Coaching Clinic” is open until February 22, 2020, by filling in the registration link: https://forms.gle/i5SBqB6rfuSZCrjr6, and paying a registration fee of 15,000, Rupiahs at the UIB HUMAS.
