Batam, December, 21th 2019, UIB International Relations Office (IRO), UIB ASEAN Study Center (PSA) in collaboration with UIB Muslim Society (Musisy) and the Foundation of Islamic Culture for Education and Development (FICED) held a Talk Show with the theme “ASEAN Social Community Dialogue: Roles of Muslims in ASEAN Countries Toward Industrial Revolution 4.0 “, which was held in Hall B, 1st Floor, Universitas Internasional Batam on Saturday, December 21th, 2019, at 09:00 to 11:30.
This activity is annual activity of FICED with a program called “Educational and Social Expedition for Global Action (EDEXGLA) Program” which aims to broaden students’ understanding of the diversity of Islam and Muslims in ASEAN countries. With the theme of Roles of Muslims in the ASEAN Countries Toward Industrial Revolution 4.0, the speakers shared their knowledge with seminar participants regarding what needs to be prepared in the face of the industrial revolution 4.0. Hendra Nugraha, S.S., M.Hum, lecturer in English education studies program reminded about the importance of thinking critically in receiving information which in the 4.0 era was very heavy in besieging young people. Information can come from anywhere, so we need a critical thought to be able to filter and sort out the information received. From the second speaker Mrs. Leil Badrah Zaki, S.Pd., M.Pd discussed the role that can be taken by Muslim youth in facing the 4.0 industrial revolution such as becoming entrepreneurs in the field of start-up, and from Thailand students, the representative of EDEXGLA 2019 shared with all participants about the things done by Thailand in facing the industrial revolution 4.0 in terms of UIB students also did not miss two UIB students also participated as speakers at the event. Alzi from the Information Technology and Larasati study program from the Architecture study program conveyed to the audience about the history of the entry of Islam and Islamic traditions carried out in Indonesia while Laras discussed Islam in architecture.
The seminar was opened by Dr. Hepy Hefri Ariyanto as Vice-Chancellor 3 of Universitas Internasional Batam a total of 16 participants attended the EDEXGLA (Thailand) entourage and 137 participants consisting of UIB students and several guests from campuses in Batam such as Batam’s Putera University, and Universities Riau Islands for Islamic organizations attended by representatives from the Indonesian Muslim Student Action Unit (KAMMI) Batam, and Batam Hijab Caring Solidarity.
After the seminar ended, the activity was continued with a city tour by Musisy and EDEXGLA Participants by visiting several religious and tourist destinations in Batam such as the Great Mosque of Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah, Barelang Bridge, and Cheng Ho Mosque. Sunday, December 22, the entire EDEXGLA group left for Johor Bahru to continue their trip to visit Islamic universities and tourist attractions in Malaysia.
