On July 15, 2021, the Information System Undergraduate Program held an FGD which aims to define a Graduate Profile in the Information System Design specialization. The activity invited industrial partners and institutions from within the country and abroad, including Prof. Takano from Kanagawa Institute of Technology-Japan, Assoc. Prof. Sabrina Ahmad from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka-Malaysia, Dr. Agus Setiawan from Multimatics Jakarta, and Mr. Billy Jantriko from Glints. In addition, there are also representatives from the Riau Islands Aptikom, PT. Infineon Indonesia, Smartfren, PT. Weever Indonesia, PT. Innoark Indonesia, PT Flextronics Indonesia and PT Pundi Mas Berjaya. The FGD discussed the future demands of graduates from the faculty of computer science. Dr. Agus Setiawan conveyed in his material about the maturity model which is the definition of the future smart organization.

In this activity, there were some very interesting insights related to the company’s changing trend towards recruitment of computer science graduates. Needs to always evolve, speed to deal with change, understanding of business needs, and the importance of communication as a soft skill are very valuable in becoming input for the process of reconstructing the Information Systems Study Program curriculum that will fully adopt OBE. Insights from Assoc. Prof. Sabrina Ahmad (UTeM) conveyed the importance of the industry being involved in the evaluation and assessment process. The experience of Mr. Eriyanto (Smartfren) said that the work of a data scientist is not about using technology, but understanding business needs. Prof. Takano Kosuke (KAIT) added about how open communication between lecturers and students is able to stimulate the ability to communicate actively. Further, Mr. Robert added how the pandemic requires programmers to be able to have high self-discipline because they no longer work in classic office hours. All of these insights will be valuable inputs for the development of the Information Systems Study Program curriculum in the future. At the same time, it also offers participants to participate as industrial lecturers and members of the industrial board, the majority of which are ready to share their knowledge with Information Systems lecturers and students in the future. The second FGD will be held on the next day to focus on visual communication design and technopreneur by inviting industrial partners from within and outside the country.
