The Bachelor Program of Information System (IS), Universitas Internasonal Batam (UIB), held an FGD for Alumni Profiles of Bachelor Program of Information Systems for the Visual Communication Design and Technopreneur specialization on Friday, July 16, 2021. This activity aims to develop a curriculum in developing Graduate Profiles of Bachelor Program of Information System in the field of Visual Communication Design and Technopreneur, one of the new specializations being developed by the Bachelor Program of Information Systems. This activity was held as the beginning of curriculum reconstruction activities towards Outcome Based Education. The FGD on July 15 and 16 was fully funded by the Kampus Merdeka Competition Program Grant which was received by UIB from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. This activity was attended by Mr. Nicholas (Ng Hak Hong) from the School of Architecture and Design of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Dr. Agus Setiawan from Multimatics Jakarta, Fendy Hidayat, representative from Apticom Riau Islands, Adam Ardisasmita from Arsanesia, Tri Sulistiono from Digital Happiness, Julio Andryanto from Dreams Studio, Johan representing the GameDev Batam community, Arseto H Pinontoan from BASE Incubator, Iwan Suhardjo from Kistech and Daniel Yusuf from Zettamind Studios.
The discussion which lasted for approximately 2 hours went very well between the participants and the Keynote Speaker. Dr. Agus gave a presentation on how important the application of 3H (Hacker, Hipster and Hustler) in the development of start-ups in Indonesia. In addition, the speaker also emphasized that in implementing Digital Transformation, it does not only focus on the technology itself but it is also important to know how to make the technology disseminate more widely and catch by more people. Correspondingly, Mr. Nicholas emphasized that technology development must also be adapted to the existing culture and traditions, so that the development and application of digital technology can be more efficient and in accordance with the needs to be obtained. In addition, representatives from the Riau Islands Aptikom also provided input on the Education system to further improve the start-up capabilities of graduates, so that they do not only focus on technological developments, but students also have to understand how the technology can be used in the wider community, especially the Riau Islands area. Adam, a representative from Arsanesia also emphasized the 3 (three) points that must be possessed in developing a graduate profile of IS students, namely focus more on students’ portfolios, have students’ own products and be more abreast of trends that exist in Indonesia and in the world today.0
The input from the technopreneur side is also very interesting. Arseto said that start up as a major is something that is very breakthrough in the higher education stage, but there is also a worry that IT student do not only focus on IT but on the business side for major start up. Iwan from Kistect said that UIB needs to build its own framework with expertise from academics and practitioners to develop start up activities. A good focus must be developed so that a start-up can develop. All opinions and experiences from resource persons and all participants in FGD activities are very good inputs for developing the profile of IS graduates in the future. The development of graduate profiles can be implemented through the development of curriculum systems and learning systems with the aim that the future graduates of the IS Bachelor Program of IS can have the fighting power and competitiveness that are more abreast of technological developments and have better product selling points, especially in the specialization of visual communication design and technopreneur.
