On Saturday, July 17th, 2021, the Information Systes Study Program of Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) held an OBE Awareness Seminar and IABEE Accreditation. This activity aims to provide information and knowledge about the implementation of the Outcomes Based Education (OBE) Learning System in the university learning environment and how to prepare for the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education. This activity was funded by the Kampus Merdeka Competition Program Grant which was received by UIB from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. Information System Study Program invites Prof. Dra. Sri Hartati, M.Sc., Ph.D from Gadjah Mada University, a member of the IABEE Executive Commission and Chair of LAM Infokom, as a resource person at this seminar. Apart from UIB, the activity was also attended by various academics from various universities in Indonesia.
Prof. Sri explained about how the actual implementation of OBE in the academic environment and its application must refer to the National Higher Education Standards (SNPT) – Accreditation and the standards of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). He emphasized that the main principle in developing an OBE-based curriculum should focus on learning outcomes, backward curriculum design, structural suitability, available opportunity facilities and PDCA systematics. According to him, graduates should not only refer to the number, but must also adjust to the needs desired by the world of work. For this reason, the Bachelor Program must also inform lecturers and students about the expected independent professional profile. This is of course by determining in advance the learning outcomes expected by the Bachelor Program. In preparing for the IABEE Accreditation, Prof. Sri also emphasized that the Undergraduate Program must also provide lecturers with adequate numbers, qualifications and competencies to carry out a better learning process. Not only Bachelor Programs, lecturers must also understand the learning outcomes and standards of the intended graduates.
The activity was also continued with a discussion session between the seminar participants and resource persons. The discussion went very well and the participants were very enthusiastic to ask questions and gain new insights from this seminar. Information System Study Program obtains a lot of insights and inputs for curriculum development and learning systems that can lead to the basis of OBE and IABEE Accreditation. This development is also directly carried out in internal discussions in the next session and results in the development of the vision and mission, graduate profiles, and learning outcomes of Information System Study Program which are more OBE-based and what preparations are needed for the Undergraduate Program to face IABEE accreditation.
