The Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) entitled Business School on Graduate Profile and Curriculum for Industry on Saturday, July 31, 2021. The workshop was funded by the Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka (PKKM) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). Further, the workshop was attended by 50 participants from several business industries in Indonesia such as Imooji, HIPMIKIMDO, Pasarloka, APRINDO, Kistech, Jomtea, Pasar20.com, Thera Property, Alpha Real Estate, Wadhwani, Dinaran, and educational institutions such as Ciputra University. The first session was opened by the Vice-Rector 1 of UIB, Dr. Meiliana, and welcomed by the Dean of FEB UIB, Ria Karina, SE., MM. and guided by the moderator, Dr. Wisnu Yuwono, SE., MM.
The presentation started with sharing from Mr. Aditya Dedi who is the Managing Partner of Imooji PT. Digimedia Technology. He explained how the graduate profiles should be following the company demands and in line with the era of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA). The second presentation was continued by Dr. Tjatur Ermitajani Judi from Ciputra University who explained that business providers should also prepare an appropriate apprenticeship system for graduates so that graduates can adapt appropriately to the targeted company. The third presentation was given by Iwan Suhardjo from Kistech PTE LTD which emphasized what skills graduates in the 21st century must have to start their own start-up company and build their business strengths. The fourth presentation was delivered by Mardigu Wowiek Prasantyo, Founder of Santara, Dinaran Gold, and Rumah Yatim Indonesia. He emphasized not to expect too much from stocks or investments when doing investments and choose wisely the right investors and professionals who can help us in starting a business.
The FGD activity was continued with a discussion of input from partners for the vision and mission as well as the graduate profiles of FEB UIB. These very important inputs for FEB UIB were given by Lili Kristianti, S.Si., M.Si. from Ciputra University, Dion from Wadhwani, Alexander Wahyudi from HIPMIKIMDO, Bambang Wahyuono from HIPMIKIMDO, and Chepy from Jomtea. All these insights and inputs are very helpful for FEB UIB in building a Vision, Mission, and Graduate Profiles that are more in line with the demands of today’s companies and business industries.
The second session was then continued with presentations from several national and international partners of FEB UIB. The second session was attended by 40 participants from various partner institutions such as PT Gojek, PT Berau Coal, Asuransi Jasa Indonesia, Tunghai University, Edugate, PT Citra Tubindo, UTAR, Hanbat University, Saipem Indonesia, PT. Superior Indonesia, IPSM, Interpak Industry, Divitia Global, and other institutions. The opening of the second session started with reading the profile description from FEB UIB by Ria Karina, SE., MM. and then continued Insight from Dr. Agustinus Setyawan, ST., MM. about the challenges and problems faced in this VUCA era and how to improve the competence of graduates to reduce unemployed university graduates. Then continued input for the Profile of FEB UIB Graduates from Dr. Chih-Yun Wu from Tunghai University, Hanry Kumala from Edugate, Prof. Wei Fong Pok from UTAR, and Choi Jong-in from Hanbat University. All these insights and inputs are certainly a very valuable reference for the Management Study Program and FEB UIB in developing and shaping graduate profiles that are more in line with the demands of today’s business world.
