The Industrial Revolution 4.0 demands dynamic changes in the world of education. Improving the quality of Human Resources (HR) is a major issue in competing in the world of work. Higher Education is required to develop science, technology and arts continuously and be creative and innovative following the dynamics of change nationally and internationally. In connection with the above, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology issued a policy of Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). MBKM gives students the right to be able to do learning outside the campus according to the preferences of the students for 1 to 2 semesters doing learning outside the campus. There are 8 forms of MBKM offered, namely student exchanges, internships/work practices, teaching assistance, research/research, humanitarian projects, entrepreneurial activities, independent studies/projects, village building/thematic real work courses. Of the 8 forms of learning activities, UIB Tourism Study Program will implement one of the activities, namely, internships/work practices.

This activity was carried out on June 30th, 2021which aimed to find out the internal and external selection process for activity participants, as well as the implementation of monitoring and evaluation, the collaboration process with industrial partners, learning methods, and the conversion process into courses. The resource persons for this activity were Wendy Purnama Tarigan, A.Md, S.E, M.M, M.B.A. – Head of BINUS University Tourism Destinations Study Program. This activity was attended by 46 participants from different campuses, namely Universitas Internasional Batam, Bali Tourism Polytechnic, International ARS STP, Bintan Cakrawala Polytechnic, Lambung Mangkurat University, Muhammadiyah University Bulukumba, Bhayangkara University Jakarta Raya, Muhammadiyah University Bulukumba, UGM, Telkom University, Bina Sarana Informatics University, Gunung Jati Swadaya University, STTKD, Palembang Tourism Polytechnic, Binus University, IAIN PAREPARE, Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya, Mandala Bhakti Tourism Academy Surakarta, Muhammadiyah University Cirebon, STIPAR Tamalatea, Polytechnic Indonusa Surakarta, STP ARS International, University Widya Mandala Catholic Surabaya.

From this activity, it was informed that prior to the implementation of internships in industry, study program can provide opportunities for partners to be able to provide sharing sessions on how to work in their industry, so that students have an overview of the work that will be carried out during the internship later. In addition, the selection of partners should have special criteria that are in accordance with the needs of study program and university, such as selecting partners who have joined the association. Also, it is necessary to conduct at least 1 visit to see student performance during internships and to find out student progress or problems that occur during internship implementation. During internships, students must have a supervisor and a student companion; therefore, students will be given a draft logbook containing related work or assignments given by the supervisor and a proof of endorsement in the form of a signature by the supervisor. From this activity, it is hoped that study program managers can carry out the MBKM program to the fullest and give students independence to choose the activities they want.
