Responding to the challenges in facing the era of industrial revolution 4.0, Batam International University continues to improve its quality and competitiveness, especially in the implementation of the Tri Dharma University; Education and Teaching, Research and Community Service.

One effort in realizing this is to be actively involved in various tri dharma activities. Wednesday, January 15, 2020, a total of 23 representatives of Batam International University together with 60 students from Universiti Utara Malaysia carried out mangrove tree planting activities on the coast of Kampung Terih. “Yes today we have a total of 23 people participating in mangrove planting activities with students from UUM, we welcome the offer from UUM to collaborate in activities like this. Students can contribute significantly to the environment, not just mere theory. ” Said Rahmi Ayunda, head of the International Relations Office at UIB.

Mangrove planting activities take place from 15:00 to 18:00 WIB. Beginning with an introductory session between the two groups, then proceed with planting mangrove seeds into a polybag, and finally planting mangroves that are already sturdy enough roots to the edge of the beach. “Mangrove functions to protect the ecosystem inside. If the mangrove forest is maintained there are crabs, shrimps and so on that, they will breed with enjoyment. ” Said Rahmat as manager of Terih Village.

In addition to collaborating in mangrove planting, UIB and UUM will also explore opportunities for wider cooperation in the future. Mangrove planting is the first activity carried out by UIB and UUM. (* IRO)
