Batam, 11 December 2023 – PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Internasional or Telin together with Universitas Internasional Batam or UIB held activities in Kampung Tua Nongsa, Sambau Village (Kampung Tua Teluk Mata Ikan, Bakau Serip, Kampung Terih, and Nongsa Pantai) which were attended by 38 women who participated located in 4 Nongsa Old Village, Sambau-Batam Village.
As part of the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) pillar, this activity can be the start of a form of contribution to coastal communities so that they have additional skills for the future. Through this training, the local community can make Kampung Tua Nongsa a tourist village area, which can provide profits and attract tourists to visit this tourist village.
Kampung Tua Nongsa has Natural Tourism Potential with a diversity of Flora and Fauna, Mangrove Conservation, Education, and beach tourism, focusing on special interest tour package services for nature tourism, cultural tourism (Culture tourism and Ecotourism), etc. This Kampung Tourism Village carries the principle of “Friendly Tourism” and is guided by Community Based Tourism, empowering the surrounding community in its management. The tourism services of Kampung Tua Nongsa Tourism Village are focused on fulfilling tourists’ deepest interest in the beauty of the natural landscape with all the interesting and unique aesthetic phenomena and socio-cultural activities of the community, which are reflected in the system.
Customs, cultural patterns, and local wisdom, as well as tourists’ interest in the life of village/rural communities on the Nongsa Sea coast, Batam City.
In this area, various facilities have been built to support tourism, such as an arts and culture stage, Mangrove Tracking, seafood restaurant, selfie area, souvenir shop, equipment rental shop, as well as an art performance stage and wifi area. It not only has tourist support facilities but is also equipped with facilities to support tourist comfort, such as public bathrooms and prayer rooms.
Seeing its potential, Telin, together with UIB, created a sustainable program to improve the quality of cleanliness of facilities supporting tourist comfort, one of which is by providing Hygiene and Sanitation training for the managers of the Nongsa Tourism Village Homestay.
“This activity is a series of Christmas and New Year 2023 activities which are routinely carried out by Telin every two periods of one year, namely at Christmas and New Year and Ramadhan Eid al-Fitr at each of our Network Area offices in Indonesia and our global offices outside Indonesia. “Through the ESG pillar #TelinforCommunity, we hope to continue to strengthen our commitment to improving the quality of life of our stakeholders, in this case, coastal communities, especially women, through ongoing training so that they can provide more skills to help provide additional income to their families,” said Budi Satria Dharma Purba, Telin CEO.
Ecotourism here also has a beautiful white sand beach destination. Its existence on the sea coast of the Nongsa area, Batam, gives this Ecotourism the advantage of views that face directly to neighboring countries, namely Singapore and Malaysia. This ecotourism offers friendly tourism with the preservation of mangrove forests, which is actualized in special interest tourism packages that are guided by the values of natural, environmental, social, and educational benefits.
This is considered very important for the survival of living creatures in the surrounding area because it is the basis for the formation of marine ecosystem food chains and can prevent disasters and coastal erosion.
UIB, as a representative of academics, strongly supports various programs in realizing UN SDGs, especially sustainable development programs in Indonesia. Contributions made by UIB include assistance in preparing a master plan for the development of an area (sub-district/sub-district), assistance in improving village governance, and assistance in increasing human resource capacity for developing tourist villages, especially in entrepreneurial competence, hospitality, attractions, and hygiene and sanitation. Various activities that have been initiated by the UIB academic community to develop tourist villages are strongly supported by industry partners/DUDI, one of which is TELIN (PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International), which is committed to strengthening the implementation of ESG initiatives. Today’s activity is focused on Women’s Empowerment as an effort to improve the quality of human resources through Hygiene and sanitation Training for Tourism Village Homestay Managers in Kampung Tua Nongsa – Sambau Village. Empowering women through homestay hygiene and sanitation training.
“This activity is important in the process of developing a sustainable tourist village. Homestay managers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to maintain personal hygiene, the cleanliness of the house/homestay facilities, and the cleanliness of the environment. “This is an effort to increase the number of visitors/tourists in tourist villages,” continued Mr. Dr. Iskandar Itan, Chancellor of UIB.”
