Batam (06/04) – The COVID-19 pandemic is still a problem that is faced by the world until today. This pandemic has resulted in massive changes in the lifestyle of the world community and caused losses in various sectors. One of the significant losses that occurred was the death toll from COVID-19 patients. Various attempts have been made to overcome this problem. The latest effort being made by governments in various countries is to implement the COVID-19 vaccination. Indonesia, as a country with a fairly high number of COVID-19 victims, is also actively mobilizing and implementing vaccination programs. Several provinces in Indonesia have implemented vaccinations, one of which is the Riau Islands province.
Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) is one of the places for vaccination in Riau Islands Province, Batam City to be precise. Vaccinations were held at UIB Sport Hall and lasted for 3 days (March 30, 2021 – April 1, 2021). Vaccination is coordinated by the Provincial Government of Riau Islands, Batam City Government and Paguyuban Sosial Marga Tionghoa Indonesia (PSMTI) Riau Islands Province. Various parties are involved as volunteers, one of which is students from Universitas Internasional Batam. Vaccination process applies the COVID-19 health protocol, such as wearing masks, maintaining distance, checking temperature, and using hand sanitizers before entering the vaccination area.
This first phase of vaccination is prioritized for elderly Batam residents (at least 60 years). Vaccine recipients register themselves first through the form provided by the committee. After registering themselves and being confirmed by the committee, the vaccine recipient will go to the vaccination site for the next process. Upon arrival at the vaccination site, each vaccine recipient completes a registration form for vaccination. After completing the form, the committee will provide a vaccination registration number and be directed to the vaccination waiting area. Vaccine recipients will be summoned by the committee to go to the vaccination site if there is already a slot for vaccines. Before being vaccinated, vaccine recipients will be screened to ensure that the recipient’s condition is safe to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The screening process involves checking the blood pressure and examining the history of the disease in question. If the vaccine recipient has high blood pressure, the vaccine recipient will be directed to a waiting room to wait for the pressure to drop. If it passes the screening, the vaccination process is carried out and the vaccine recipient needs to wait 30 minutes to be observed by the committee. After completion, the vaccine recipient can take the vaccination card and leave the vaccination site.
The vaccination process that took place at Universitas Internasional Batam went smoothly. Participants who are eligible for the vaccine have received the vaccine. UIB hopes that the next vaccination process can also run well and there are no obstacles in the distribution of vaccines. (public relations)
